This is a system I developed for Rule Tiles, building on the Advanced Rule Tiles in Unity's 2D Extras. This system allows for much more complex patterns, including to a theoretically infinite range away from the tile itself. Here you can see an example of it's usefulness. While it may be useful with manually created tilemaps, this was built with the intention of fleshing out procedural tilemaps with complex interactions that made them feel like they were fully connected and intentional within their own contexts.
